FERRITIN HOME TEST KIT - £59

Our Ferritin home test kit helps you understand the level of iron in your blood. If your body has low levels of iron, your cells won’t get enough oxygen and you will feel tired and lethargic.

This test enables you to find out whether your blood contains the recommended level of Ferritin.

Summary

Your body uses a blood protein called ferritin to store iron, which enables haemoglobin in the blood to carry oxygen to your cells. A ferritin test can help spot early symptoms of health problems such as hyperthyroidism, liver problems, rheumatoid arthritis, anaemia and even some cancers.

If your levels of Ferritin are higher or lower than the recommended ranges, it can be an indicator of underlying health issues which can occasionally be symptomless. Ferritin tests enable you to gain an insight into your body’s health, and are especially recommended for people who feel a lack of energy and other related symptoms.

What is a Ferritin test?

Iron is an important protein which allows haemoglobin in the blood to transfer oxygen to cells in the body. Some iron is taken from food immediately after entering the digestive system, and the rest is stored for later use when the body needs to create new red blood cells. This process requires Ferritin, combining with another protein named transferrin, which then transfers the Iron to the places in the body where new red blood cells need to be produced.

It is important for the body to store enough iron to use when necessary, since a low amount can mean that your red blood cells are unable to supply enough oxygen to cells around the body.

A Ferritin test is conducted by taking a sample of blood with a finger prick kit, taken from the comfort of home. If a Ferritin test results is lower than the recommended range, then it could potentially indicate an iron deficiency, and if they are higher then it could indicate a number of conditions such as liver disease or hyperthyroidism – however more tests would be needed to diagnose this.
